Whether life is pre-determined or not, one thing is certain -- you can't pre-determine your life.

You can, however, prepare for the opportunities in life and be ready to take them.

I consider myself well prepared thanks in large part to a continuous curiosity to learn. In this respect, journalism has been a wonderful fit for me since graduating college in 2001 -- I'm always learning.

I take pride in first understanding a topic I'm covering, then writing about it. Those who I interview say I have strong knack of taking complex issues and bringing them to the reader level -- without distorting fact, or dumbing down the topic.

There is no doubt that journalism and communications are undergoing a monumental shift their delivery and revenue streams. It's a shift I fully embrace. Good reporting and writing will always shine through whether in print, online, in tweets, or streaming video.

Recently, I made the decision to switch back to freelance work after six years of full-time work for the Boulder County Business Report, where you'll still see my byline.
